Monica Vernon committed to improving Cedar Rapids
Reprinted from The Gazette, Sunday, September 30, 2007, page 12A

There are generally two types of people in the world; those who tell us what needs to be done and those who spend the time trying to accomplish them. I have known Monica Vernon for many years. She is a doer.

I have seen Vernon leave her house at the crack of dawn and arrive home well after midnight to further the interest of Cedar Rapids. I have seen her advocate for Cedar Rapids in Des Moines, in Washington, D.C., and across a cup of coffee. She is truly committed to making Cedar Rapids a better place to live and work. I have watched Vernon lead groups and be led by others.

She listens and works well with others. She tackles any issue she confronts with energy and good humor. She is decisive and is not afraid to take a stand, express her opinion, or cast a vote she believes in.

Vernon is a visionary — largely through her efforts, our citizens convened in the 15 in 5 community planning process. She has worked tirelessly with others to improve downtown Cedar Rapids.

Vernon has made a difference in our community. She is exactly the kind of person we need on our city council.
