Monica Vernon brings engaged leadership to C.R.
Reprinted from The Gazette, Monday, September 17, 2007
As you know, we will be going to the polls in November to elect our representative to the District 2 seat on the Cedar Rapids City Council. I am writing this letter encouraging you to support Monica Vernon for this seat.
I have known Monica as long as my family and I moved to Cedar Rapids and can attest to her solid reputation in the community and genuine leadership skills. Monica founded Vernon Research Group 20 years ago and has cultivated it into a strong business. She has also served on the Cedar Rapids Planning Commission, serving four years as Chairperson. In addition, Monica was appointed to the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is completing her term as immediate past chairperson. Candidly, I could go on and on about Monica’s commitment to Cedar Rapids; however, her key attribute can be summed up in two words–engaged leadership.
Engaged leadership is the difference between someone who shows up to vote and those who engage colleagues, challenge assumptions, find common ground, and make thoughtful decisions–not avoid difficult decisions. In my experience, Monica meets challenges head-on and always follows through. Monica earned my vote.
If you are looking for a leader, that is accessible, thoughtful and decisive, please join me in supporting Monica Vernon for the District 2 seat on the Cedar Rapids City Council.
