I am pleased to endorse Monica Vernon for Cedar Rapids City Council. She has repeatedly demonstrated her willingness to take on important community issues and she possesses the skills and perception to bring them to successful resolution.
Three recent leadership roles Vernon has held included chairwoman of the Cedar Rapids Planning Commission, chairwoman of the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and representative on the Downtown Visioning Group, which resulted in the JLG report. In each case, Vernon took a crucial leadership role in sorting out the complexities and then bringing the various, sometime contentious, interests together to produce excellent results for the greater good of Cedar Rapids.
From my participation with her on the Cedar Rapids City Planning and Zoning Commission and the Chamber of Commerce board, I find that she has the energy, the emphasis on preparation and the consensus-building skills needed to be an able city leader. Vernon would make an outstanding District 2 representative to City Council.
