Vernon will put in time needed to be effective

Our Cedar Rapids City Council members play an important part in the health and vibrancy of our community.
Therefore I am delighted that Monica Vernon has chosen to run for the District 2 position.
Having known Vernon for more than 20 years, I have confidence in her abilities.
When I first met Vernon, she was a young mother and community volunteer. In those days, she was clearly a selfstarter with a positive outlook and a determination to put her energy into making Cedar Rapids a vibrant community that serves everyone.
She hasn’t changed those attributes, but she has continued to grow and take on more responsibility in our community. Perhaps her greatest strength is the ability to see the big picture. She understands issues and knows how to keep her eye on the goal in front of her. Using her vision, determination and positive nature she has built a successful business from scratch. She has served the community with long-term commitments to several important boards, including Four Oaks, the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce.
Vernon cares deeply about her community. I believe she would:
- Be accessible to community members.
- Put in the time needed to be effective as a council member.
- Be a good listener.
- Be able to make courageous decisions when needed.
That’s what I want and expect from my representative.
