City council members make decisions affecting almost every aspect of our lives.
I want a representative who is willing to make even tough decisions and capable of making wise choices that benefit the overall community. I believe Monica Vernon has this ability in abundance.
Effective city decision-makers need intelligence, a willingness to listen and examine different perspectives, a broad knowledge of our community, and the ability to see both the big picture and the potential impact on individuals.
Monica Vernon has a keen intellect, a professional background in researching issues, a strong understanding of our city and county, an interest in peoples’ opinions, a knack for cutting to the heart of the matter, and a commitment to turning talk into action.
This candidate knows more about our community — Monica’s list of volunteer service and leadership positions with government, civic, educational, non-profit and business groups is extraordinarily long. This candidate knows more about the opportunities before us — she has traveled and worked extensively in other cities as part of managing her research firm and seen what is working elsewhere.
But most important for my vote, this candidate cares about Cedar Rapids. With her abilities, Monica could have gone to work in New York, Chicago, anywhere. She chose to make her life and raise her family in Cedar Rapids. Her run for council isn’t motivated by political agenda or personal gain. She cares deeply about this community and I trust her to make it a better place for us all.
