How to pick a superb City Council member?
It’s easy. Really. Just look at a candidate’s background and track record. Breadth and depth of experience — plus consistent achievement — are what you want to see.
For example, one District 2 candidate brings the following professional background to the table: Business development, business operations, market and consumer research, media research, strategic planning, education (U of I adjunct faculty), public relations and news reporting.
Her community experience includes service as Cedar Rapids Chamber chair, Cedar Rapids Planning/Zoning chair, Linn County Regional Planning Commission Board, Downtown Visioning Group and Fifteen in Five founder, Four Oaks and Jane Boyd boards, Junior League president and a lot more. Over 25 years of significant involvement in our community!
And while all that was going on, she married and raised three active daughters, plus founded, built and managed a successful service company.
Her rapidly-growing company, Vernon Research Group, is a business that deals with the understanding of how people think and why they do the things they do (pretty good experience for a city leader).
This extremely qualified candidate is Monica Vernon.
I’m glad I know her. And I’m glad she’s decided to run for City Council. Please join me in support of Monica Vernon.
